Dare to suck

Four days in to my commitment to writing something every day for 30 days and I’m already struggling.

The problem is not that I’m stuck for ideas. I have tons of ideas. I’ve been writing them in my notes app for the best part of a decade. I get five or six a day sometimes.

The problem is taking them from their current state of a great idea stored away in safe keeping, and bringing them out into the open.

To do that requires work, yes. But I’m not afraid of work.

I’m afraid of wasting a good idea.

I’m afraid that I will take an idea that has seemingly limitless possibilities in its unpublished form, and turn it into something that fails to make any impact at all.

But we know what happens to people who listen to this fear. They never start.

They choose to keep their ideas hidden away in safe keeping, but by doing so starve them of the light they need to grow.

If you want to grow an orchard you need to plant a lot of trees. Some won’t survive, but that’s ok. Don’t let that stop you from starting.
